West Side Update- July 2, 2024

City Council Update 7/2

Hi neighbors! After each meeting, you can find need-to-knows, news updates, and upcoming events on this blog! Take a look below and stay informed on what’s happening in our city! This month, we had a short yet productive meeting!

Mayoral Updates

The Mayor informed us that three swimmers, one tennis player, and one swimming coach will represent our city at the Summer Olympics in Paris! We are so proud and wish them all the best!

Committee Updates

The Land Use Committee met to discuss the short-term non-dwelling ordinance and gave a positive recommendation for it. The Committee also discussed the merits of having DORAs (Designated Outdoor Drinking Areas) in Carmel.

Ordinances and Resolutions

Ordinance D-2696-23, which would establish a speed limit of 20 miles per hour in roundabouts, remains in the Finance, Utilities, and Rules Committee.

Ordinance Z-690-24, which would establish specific standards for short-term rentals of pools, backyards, accessory buildings, or other structures, was sent back to the Land Use Committee to ensure that the details of the ordinance match the intent.

The Council approved Ordinance D-2715-24 with a vote of 7-1. This Ordinance amends the Board of Public Works and Safety Membership rules, allowing the mayor to appoint a designated person to attend the meetings in her stead.

Ordinance D-2716-24, which would amend alcohol prohibition on certain sections of the Monon Greenway, was sent to the Land Use Committee. Ordinance D-2718-24, which would establish a designated outdoor refreshment area in the center of Carmel pursuant to Indiana state law, was also sent to the Land Use Committee. These ordinances would be implemented and passed together.

THIS is what is known as a DORA- please join us at the land use committee meeting on July 17th to discuss this further and make public comments and express your opinion.
